Job Description

The Senior Fund manager for Gift & Commitments reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Finance/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the School of Education & Information Studies (Ed&IS) as part of the central Finance Office, with a focus on reporting and school commitments. The primary responsibilities for the Senior Fund manager include: advanced financial analysis, monitoring, and post-audit review of all school Gift & Endowment (G&E) and Ed&IS internal and external commitments for the school; school financial reporting externally and internally related to G&E and commitments, develop budgets, expenditure reports, projections, and trend analyses with recommendations to the Assistant Dean/CFO and/or school External Relations team relative to G&E; resolve financial issues, perform fiscal year-end closing actions, specifically related to G&E and commitments for the school, and support financial tracking and processing for internal funds. Using the Consolidated fund management system, the Senior Fund Manager will manage and process gifts and endowments for use by the intended faculty/unit and run regular audit review to ensure funds are being utilized appropriately. The Senior Fund Manager will also manage all dean and campus level commitments including but not limited to: dean commitments to faculty, dean commitments to Ed&IS units, campus commitments to the dean/Ed&IS, and other school commitments to Ed&IS. Collaborate as appropriate with various Ed&IS offices to ensure commitments are allocated and tracked appropriately. The Senior Fund Manager will proactively initiate and implement School- wide financial policy, procedures, and best practices to ensure the optimum utilization of school resources in relation to G&E and commitments in collaboration with the CFO, Finance Director, External Relations and any other related stakeholders.

Qualifications

  

* Advanced working knowledge of accounting principles and computerized purchasing and accounts payable systems in a large University of higher education setting. (Required)
* Demonstrated experience in accounting and business practices to provide guidance and direction in financial, contract and grant, and administrative issues. (Required)
* Advanced working knowledge in creating various types of financial reports to perform trend analyses and forecasts, set cost recovery rates, and capture historical data to develop justification for current rates. (Required)
* Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with discretion, and to maintain professional working relationships with sponsors, industry, government, the UC and other academic and corporate institutions. (Required)
* Excellent interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and usage of language to clearly convey information verbally and in writing. Ability to present persuasive arguments and use negotiation skills to achieve mutually agreeable solutions. (Required)
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple project budgets to synthesize data in a user-friendly format and use advanced financial and accounting skills to perform functions effectively. (Required)
* Demonstrated written communication skills to independently draft a variety of correspondence, which clearly communicates information, policy, procedure, and requests for action to internal and external parties. (Required)
* Ability to independently validate expectations, problem-solve obstacles, and follow-up to completion and/or proactively report status of assignments/projects. (Required)
* Ability to work independently, meet fixed deadlines, and follow through tasks to completion. Strong organizational skills to set priorities and work with frequent interruptions. (Required)
* Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures in a large institution of higher education, such as accounting, travel, purchasing, consultants, and subawards to coordinate and expedite tasks with associated central offices. (Required)
* Demonstrated ability to efficiently operate Macintosh and PC computers with advanced working knowledge in the latest versions of Excel other software; demonstrated knowledge of Word and PowerPoint. (Required)
* Ability to work responsibly and accurately with detailed information including financial data and calculations, contract clauses and performance dates, and other numeric and narrative information. (Required)

* Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience (Required)
