Job Description
At Joyce Soul and Sea, located in downtown Los Angeles, we are seeking a Chef to lead our culinary team and oversee all kitchen operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in culinary arts, excellent leadership skills, menu execution, and delivering on dining experience. You will be responsible for: * Menu Development: Update menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences. Enhance culinary experience. * Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff, including sous chefs and line cooks. Scheduling team and distributing tasks * Food Preparation and Cooking: Oversee all aspects of food preparation and cooking to ensure consistency and quality. Set and enforce standards for food presentation and portion control. * Inventory and Cost Control: Manage inventory levels, including ordering and receiving supplies.Monitor food costs and implement strategies to minimize waste and maximize profitability. * Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of food quality and kitchen cleanliness. Address any issues related to food safety and hygiene practices. * Collaboration: Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and communication. Collaborate with management on special events and catering needs. * Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all kitchen operations comply with health and safety regulations. Implement and maintain sanitation practices in line with industry standards. * Training and Development: Provide ongoing training to kitchen staff on techniques, equipment, and best practices. Stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate them into training sessions. * Customer Interaction: Engage with customers as needed, addressing feedback and enhancing the dining experience. Participate in events and promotions to showcase culinary offerings. * Analysis: Maintain accurate records of inventory, costs, and staff performance. Prepare reports for upper management regarding kitchen operations and financial performance Schedule: Average of 45-50 hours with 2 days off for a weekend. Required to work on the weekends. We believe and value work/life balance. Requirements: * 2+ years of proven experience leading a team preferably in a high volume, fine dining environment. Experience with Southern style cooking is a plus. * Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively. * Excellent leadership and communication skills with a team-oriented mindset. * Culinary degree or equivalent certification from a recognized culinary institution is a bonus. * Creative and passionate about food, with a strong understanding of flavor profiles and presentation techniques. * Proficient in budgeting, inventory management, and cost control Job Type: Full-time Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * Flexible schedule * Paid time off Shift: * 10 hour shift * 8 hour shift * Day shift * Evening shift Supplemental Pay: * Bonus opportunities Experience: * Cooking in a restaurant: 3 years (Required) * Food safety: 1 year (Required) * Leadership: 1 year (Required) Ability to Commute: * Los Angeles, CA 90017 (Preferred) Ability to Relocate: * Los Angeles, CA 90017: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
